We have so enjoyed teaching our children the faith through wonderful books!
Here are some of our favorites . . .
My Path to Heaven: A Young Person's Guide to the Faith by Geoffrey Bliss
This book is so beautiful. It is a "retreat-in-a-book," based on the traditional St. Ignatius retreat. Each lesson has a beautiful black and white, detailed illustration to help children visualize the concepts. We made copies of them so they could each hold their own picture, and color them if they wanted.
St. Patrick's Summer: A Children's Adventure Catechism by Marigold Hunt
This book was really fun! It's a fictional story where different saints come and teach catechism lessons to a boy and girl. Because it's a story, children enjoy it so much while they are learning!
The Jesus Storybook Bible, Read-Aloud Edition: Every Story Whispers His Name by Sally Lloyd-Jones
The Jesus Storybook Bible Deluxe Edition: With CDs
We have treasured this book, as well as the audio CD's that come with the deluxe version. We have read it so many times that we have gone through a few copies. The Read-Aloud Edition is perfect for reading to children, with lovely, beautiful, large illustrations. The best part of this book is that it relates Jesus to every single Bible story, from Adam and Eve to Noah's Ark to the New Testament. When I was young, I really did not understand how Jesus related to the other Bible stories. This book does the best job of teaching that to children. And me! Also, the audio version is narrated beautifully.
The Action Bible by David C. Cook
Our kids love this Bible! They have read it over and over again, and have learned Bible stories so well. This doesn't just cover the main Bible stories that are in most children's Bibles, but is much more in depth. Our son, who is almost 13, has read this so many times, and still loves to sit on the couch to read it before breakfast. It is in comic book format, so if your child is old enough to read comic book format, they will love this.
Lego Catechism of the Seven Sacraments by Kevin and Mary O'Neill
This book is a goldmine. It is also in comic book format, and all of the illustrations are made with Legos. So awesome! But what is truly amazing is the in-depth, rich, very thorough theology lessons. I have learned so much from this book! It is amazing!
Our Lady of Fatima: The Graphic Novel by Deo Gratias Press
Again, another book is comic book format. Apparently we like comics! But this book, and the story of Fatima will increase your faith so much! It is truly amazing, and your children will love to learn about it with this book!
Saints and Feast Days: A Resource and Activity Book by The Sisters of Notre Dame of Chardon, Ohio
This book is such a wonderful guide to the saints and feast days throughout the year. It's so easy to use, and we have learned about many saints just by reading the page for the day.
Many more recommendations to come!
